About
About Koyt and hUMBLE Equine Therapy

Raised outside Dallas, Texas, Koyt Kifer earned a degree in art from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) before spending a decade living and working in mountain communities across the United States. During the winters, he worked as a PSIA-certified ski instructor; summers brought opportunities to work with horses as a trail guide, equine program director, and farrier. These experiences helped shape a career grounded in the connection between people, animals, and their environment.
Koyt’s path into equine-assisted therapy began with EAGALA certification as an Equine Specialist in 2012. While pursuing graduate studies, he provided equine therapy services before earning a master’s degree in counseling from Hardin-Simmons University and becoming an EAGALA-certified Mental Health Professional.
Over the past decade, his counseling experience has included residential dual-diagnosis treatment, collaborative equine therapy programs, private practice, and other counseling settings. He has worked with people from diverse backgrounds, including military populations, addressing a broad range of mental health concerns through both in-person and virtual counseling.
Trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Koyt has focused much of his practice on trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). His background in professional counseling and hands-on work with horses informs his approach to incorporating equine experiences into the therapeutic process.
